Vine yard Triacca: I Fratelli Triacca
Our company
Our grandfathers Domenico and Peter at the end of the 19th century sold wines from the local zone called Poschia. In 1897 they bought a small Vineyard in Valgella, but to be able to sell their wines they opened a wine shop in Campascio. In the Twenties the two brother’s families both founders of the company separated. One opened a company by the name of Peter Triacca and the other as Triacca bros.
After the 1050’s the Triacca brothers completely transformed their own company, passing from selling measured wines to bottled ones.
They followed ulterior and modern wine cellars and the villa of Tirano.
In 1969 they bought the first Vineyard the estate La Gatta and during the same year, they acquired the Madonnina in Greve, found in the heart of the classic Chianti.
In 1990 they added the estate Tenuta Santavenere found near Montepulciano. Both of the properties in Toscana needed huge and intense work of widening and restructure.
“In 1996 the Tona, founded by Giovanni Tona in 1892 at Villa of Tirano, it passes to the group AVITRIA wine house Vinicola Triacca SA, which with its 45 hectares of vines it represents one of the most significant wine growers and producers of Valtellina.
”In the year 2000 the third estate in Tuscany holding 40 hectors in Maremma was acquired.
Our vineyards
Also benefitting from the enormous technological progresses within the wine cellar ambient, it is certain that the character of one wine is attributable to the terrain, concomitance and more climate factors, the ground and location.
The objective of the company is in fact to realise just these unmistakable wines, so much that its traditional saying is «Dalla mia vigna» “From my vine”.
More than 50 collaborators work full time for the Triacca family. The vine yards are found in the regions of production and are a controlled domination of origin (Doc/docg/igt) not just in Valtellina (Lombardy) but also in the classic Chianti and in the Nobile Wine of Montepulciano (Tuscany). We’re talking about approximately 180 hectares of vineyards.
Our vines
In the vineyards of Valtellina the red berry (bacca rossa) dominates the vine Nebbiolo (also called Chiavennasca).moreover we have the other red berry Pignola, from which we produce the white and sparkling wines that is “Blancs de Noirs With the white berry we have been able to plant the Sauvignon Blanc.
Products
Triacca sells wines in Italy, in Switzerland, in the USA, Germany, Benelux, Austria, Norway and England - All the wine bottles come from the vines of the company. Very few grapes are bought, all of the production phases are controlled, from the planting to the ageing until the wine is bottled, answering to the contents of each bottle. The quality of the wine is famous, depending on the vine.
The product is about 45 hectors that are worked in the wine cellars of the Estate in Tirano. La Gatta with 13 hectors represents the major part, 10 hectors in the Sassella area, 9 hectors in Valgella and in Tirano, 4 hectors in the Estate in Tirano. The annual production is about 700'000 bottles.
The Triacca Method
In the beginning of the ’70 s the Triacca family, invested great capital and human resources, to find valid technical solutions to improve the qualitative aspects, reach the competition of other winemaking zones, high costs of production and money to maintain the territory one of the most important operas was the cloning of the Nebbiolo, after a scrupulous job of selection, multiplication and micro-vinificazione, the clones were planted with an intense technique. The result show the richest and intense must. In order to contain the costs and to rationalize the working, the vines are arranged in horizontal lines, this has allowed the introduction of some working machinery, allowing a more ecological management of the wine yards and lowering the working hours per hector, from 1200 to 700. The new growing system allows us to model the vegetation in a way to create a solar panel, assuring an elevated reception of light. The Triacca method represents a beacon for all of the valtellinese wine produces.

The Prestige
The Triacca method has allowed the creation of new wines like the Valtellina Superiore DOCG Prestige. A superb wine and an image of the company, it is made with grapes that are slightly withered during the wine making process, produced in the newly planted vines that allow us to cut the vine shoots leaving the grape hanging and harvested 30 days later.
During this time a natural concentration of must happens and the grape synthesizes specific micro-aromas thanks to the thermal jolts between day and night, resulting in a new rich wine, elegant, yielded, and soft tanned and full bodied.
Wine House La Gatta
The Estate La Gatta was built 500 years ago.
In origin it was a Dominican convent, then it became the summer residence of the Noble family De Gatti Cats, coming from Comasco and now it is the temple of the Triacca wines.
Over the last years a National and International tourist movement has been developing an interest. The walks and technical interest we can offer all comes from the original vines, the thirteen hectors surrounding the Tenuta Estate expresses the largeness of the valtellinese vine yards, continued to a visit to the 'barricaia' (barrels) with a good three hundred oak immersed in an authentic atmosphere of the past.
On the ground floor La Gatta has a modern wine cellar highly functional and from which one has access to the sixteenth century wine cellar. It can accommodate up to 50 people that can be accompanied on the visit / wine tasting tour by our multilingual staff.
Outside the estate within the grounds there is garden space that allows the visitors to taste wines in the open air, a chance to admire the surrounding landscape. For a more particular public who are careful and need particular attention we offer personal and professional wine tastings. (E.g. Vertical, historical vintage years) this is carried out in one of the four halls “of age” in the Tenuta.
At last for he who loves to walk it is possible to do two walks one short and one long the terraces that surround the Tenuta.
La Gatta is easy to find it’s found at the foot of the Retico and it’s very near the (state road) Statale 38 (Bianzone-So-), has ample parking, can also accept big sized bus parking.
